T-Mobile is offering one year of Apple TV Plus – free – as an added benefit to new and existing subscribers on most of its wireless plans.
From Wednesday August 25, all T-Mobile customers on the Magenta and Magenta Max plans can take advantage of the offer (just like small T-Mobile for Business, Sprint Unlimited Plus and Sprint Premium customers). The offer is currently available until July 31, 2022.
T-Mobile already bundles Netflix at no additional cost with most Magenta and Magenta Max plans. The company’s decision to divest Apple TV Plus for 12 months comes after the mobile operator shut down TVision, its own pay-TV streaming service, six months after its launch earlier this year.
Typically, as part of these promotional offers, the distributor (in this case, T-Mobile) pays a per-subscriber wholesale charge to the streaming service provider (Apple). For Apple, the T-Mobile deal will help it attract new viewers to Apple TV Plus – who, ideally, will become addicted to the service and end up paying for it after the one-year giveaway ends.
Apple’s pact with T-Mobile comes after the tech giant in July ended free trials of Apple TV Plus for many device customers, some of whom had not paid for the streamer since its release. launch in November 2019.
In announcing the 12-month giveaway, T-Mobile called out the Apple TV Plus originals, including “Ted Lasso” starring Jason Sudeikis, “The Morning Show” starring Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon (which returns for a second season on the 17th. September), and “See” with Jason Momoa, as well as the films “CODA”, “Billie Eilish: The World’s A Little Blurry” and “Greyhound” with Tom Hanks. He also cited upcoming series like “The Problem with Jon Stewart” and the adaptation of “Foundation” by Isaac Asimov.
“T-Mobile customers can now enjoy Apple TV Plus for a full year and watch directly in the Apple TV app on all of their favorite devices,” said Peter Stern, Apple vice president of services, in a statement.
Media streaming is the No. 1 use of the T-Mobile network, accounting for more than half of global traffic, according to the operator.
T-Mobile customers who already have an Apple TV Plus subscription can still get 12 months of Apple TV Plus at no additional cost. To take advantage of the offer, eligible T-Mobile customers can log into the T-Mobile app or my.t-mobile.com. Sprint Unlimited Plus and Premium customers can visit http://www.promotions.t-mobile.com, log in, then enter the promo code “2021APPLETVP1” to redeem.
Apple TV Plus costs $ 4.99 per month after the free promotional trial periods expire. As part of the T-Mobile offer, only one Apple TV Plus subscription is available per wireless account. The Apple TV Plus plan will automatically renew until canceled.
