Cyberattacks continue to be a big problem in Southeast Asia, especially for small and medium-sized businesses. In fact, most security reports point to an increase in cyberattacks over the past two years, with ransomware being the main culprit.

In Singapore, the Singapore Computer Emergency Response Team (SingCert) advised businesses to strengthen their cybersecurity, vigilance and online defenses to protect against cyberattacks such as web defacement, denial of service distributed (DDoS) and ransomware. DDoS swamp attacks target traffic and disable their computer systems.

With the increase in demand for cybersecurity protection, some businesses are looking for simple and affordable cybersecurity services to protect themselves. This includes the presence of cybersecurity applications on devices like cell phones, tablets, and laptops.

While cybersecurity apps provide basic protection for mobile devices, their adoption has increased in countries like Singapore. The Singapore Ministry of Communications and Information’s Digital Readiness Survey showed that two-thirds of Singaporeans would use anti-virus software on devices, but 40% had cybersecurity apps installed on their mobile phones.

As such, StarHub launched CyberProtect. CyberProtect is an all-in-one online protection cybersecurity service that integrates antivirus, virtual private network (VPN) access, and advanced parental controls into a single app. By implementing its DARE+ strategy to enhance customers’ digital lives with enriching services, StarHub is building a safety bubble for customers to be entertained and productive online.

CyberProtect is powered by F-Secure, a global cybersecurity provider. The solution can be installed on multiple devices, such as smartphones, tablets, and personal and family-owned PCs to protect against viruses, ransomware, and other harmful apps that steal users’ personal data.

According to Johan Buse, Director of Consumer Business Group at StarHub, the biggest cybersecurity challenge for customers is no longer not recognizing that they are vulnerable targets, but not knowing what to do about it. He added that every time a new form of online threat surfaces, a new burden weighs on customers’ minds and their online experience becomes fraught with worry.

“With CyberProtect, our goal is to simplify cybersecurity for customers, giving them peace of mind when they go online. We eliminate the need for multiple applications to defend customers against different types of online threats and provide a comprehensive service that will ensure both security and privacy. While there is no silver bullet when it comes to cybersecurity, it is one that works in tandem with common sense practices, to provide a effective layer of protection that protects customers,” commented Buse.

Compared to traditional antiviruses that only scan devices, CyberProtect goes a step further to automatically detect and remove malware. This industry-leading behavior-based protection technology from CyberProtect accelerates responses to new threats on customer devices, quickly eliminating dangerous programs behind the scenes.

At the same time, CyberProteect also provides VPN access allowing users to encrypt their connection to surf, stream and network online with privacy. This is especially important for customers when connecting to public WiFi, a VPN prevents spying by hackers and trackers.

As part of the Governance pillar of StarHub’s ESG sustainability strategy, StarHub offers a comprehensive suite of cybersecurity services to help large enterprises, small businesses, government customers and consumers protect against cyber risks.
