EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. —
Winter is finally over and spring has arrived! Despite the cold mornings or high winds we fought, the weather is definitely warming up. Much like the things we do every year at home, cleaning up winter debris blowing into our yards or removing dead plants and weeds; at Edwards AFB we have an annual event known as “Spring Cleaning Week”.
Col. Randel Gordon, 412th Test Wing Vice Commander, has announced that “Spring Cleaning Week” will take place April 25-29, 2022 and needs the support of all personnel to make this happen. The accumulation of waste is not only an eyesore, but also increases the potential for fire hazard. Our strong winds create large accumulations of trash, brush and other debris. It is important that each of us takes the time to do our part in cleaning up the areas where we live and work to ensure that Edwards AFB looks and stays looking good.
To ensure basic standards are met, facility managers are encouraged to use this week for general indoor and outdoor housekeeping and to complete small self-improvement projects. Facility Managers can contact the 412th Civil Engineering Group (412 CEG) U-Fix-It Store located in Building 3500 for self-help supplies such as trash bags, rakes, etc. U-Fix-It store hours are Monday through Friday 0700-1530 and can be reached by calling 277-2659. If facility managers require bulky waste collection for disposal of large items, they should contact the Requirements and Optimization office at 412 CEG at 277-3330 to coordinate collection. Facility Managers can call the HAZMAT Pharmacy located in Building 3513 at 277-0128 regarding disposal of hazardous materials (paint, chemicals, fluorescent bulbs and batteries, etc.).
Housing residents who live at Mayroad Housing can pick up household items such as air filters and light bulbs at the community center located at 1365 Fitzgerald Blvd. Household hazardous materials can be dropped off at Mayroad Housing, Building 6696. Housing residents are reminded that recyclable items and green waste should be placed in the appropriate containers. If housing residents place trash or trash in plastic bags or boxes, remember the 50-pound weight limit. If you are recycling televisions, please call for prior authorization. Bulk pick up and recycling will take place on regularly scheduled days throughout “Spring Cleaning Week”. For more information, please contact Mayroad Housing at (661) 385-6060.
The Base Dump (Building 7900) is a state-certified redemption center authorized to reimburse customers for their California Refund Value (CRV) deposits paid on aluminum, glass, and plastic beverage containers at the time of purchase. They also recycle non-CRV items such as cardboard, paper, newspaper magazines, scrap metal, and styrofoam. Recycling hours are Monday through Friday 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Also, consider donating reusable household items to Airman’s Attic or Thrift Store.
