Logitech MX keyboard and MX 3S mouse review: A dream combo for intensive use

Logitech’s MX Mechanical Keyboard and MX Master 3S Mouse is arguably the best keyboard-mouse combo available on the market today. Apart from Apple Mac and Windows platform based computers, these Bluetooth-enabled devices are compatible with tablets and smartphones, even smart TVs. It is important to note that the mouse and keyboard can simultaneously connect with up to three supporting devices. What’s more, switching from one device to another is very simple: just press a dedicated button. This keyboard-mouse combo is carefully designed to eliminate clutter and make work efficient and effortless.

Design

The mouse looks similar to the company’s previous models, but has a nicer white-silver finish. It is important to note that the mouse, by design, is intended for right-handed users. That said, it’s full of surprises: its scroll wheel supports both shifted and smooth scrolling. Therefore, it is hassle-free for both small quarter-page scrolls and fast “Mag Speed” scrolling to the end of the page. The side wheel is well positioned; it doesn’t get in the way of the thumb or stretch too far for comfort. Properly sized, the mouse doesn’t feel bulky.

As for the keyboard, it is ideal for those who like to type very quickly and press hard on the keys when necessary. It is a bit heavy, but not bulky. The keyboard keys are well spaced and feel tactile to use.

Features and performance

Both devices are best experienced with the Logitech Options+ software available for Windows and Mac computers. This is because the value-added features of both are enabled through the software. Additionally, app-specific customizations and triggers are managed through the app. So, once you install Logitech software, you get plenty of features to make your work life easier and more fun.

Logitech MX Keyboard

The side wheel can serve many purposes. It can scroll through tabs, volume up or down, etc. Moreover, you can also choose which feature should work on which app. For example, you can select Google Chrome and the wheel would move through tabs. Similarly, you can select other applications like MS Excel and make the wheel serve another purpose. And all of this can be done and changed from within the Options+ app itself. On-screen mouse movement, in-hand feel, and primary and secondary keys are just perfect for playing games or creating intricate, detail-oriented designs on apps like Adobe Photoshop or Corel Draw.

Now the keyboard takes its combination with the mouse to the next level. It has a hand proximity sensor that activates the backlight. The texture of the keys is neither smooth nor rough, but nicely gradient for a comfortable touch and feel. The fingers move over it as if there were no friction. Besides the regular keys, there are dedicated keys for adjusting the keyboard backlight and for switching devices. The feature to designate shortcut keys for apps like Chrome and Excel is to be appreciated. But the most useful shortcut key would be the calculator key. Although the keys are smooth and require almost no effort to press for optimal results, they are capable of taking some serious knocks, in case some frustration creeps in while working.

Battery

The mouse and keyboard are equipped with an on/off switch. Both have USB-C ports for charging. For the keyboard, the company claims a 15-day battery life on a full charge with the backlight on. Without a backlight, it can work for up to 10 months, the company says. The nice thing about charging is that you won’t need any special wire for it. Any normal Type-C cable would do.

Verdict

The Logitech MX Mechanical keyboard and MX Master 3S mouse are high-end devices for those who want to be more efficient in their work and enjoy the experience at the same time. With all the features the devices have in store, they are a good buy for intensive professionals.
