Full cast and creative team revealed for New York Theater Workshop’s American (Tele)visions

The co-production with the Mitu Theater is written by Victor I. Cazares and directed by Rubén Polendo.

The next New York Theater Workshop American (televisions)a co-production with Theater Mitu, will begin Off-Broadway performances September 9 and open September 29, with a limited engagement running through October 16. Written by NYTW Playwright-in-Residence Victor I. Cazares, the world premiere will be directed by Rubén Polendo.

Featured in the cast will be Clew (Angels in America), Raul Castillo (Looking at), Ryan J. Haddad (Hi, are you single?), Elia Monte Brown (New Amsterdam), and Bianca “b” Norwood (Seven capital sins).

The memory piece follows “Hero of Ages Lost” Erica as she pushes her shopping cart through a ’90s Walmart, telling the story of an undocumented Mexican family. The performance will include live performances, live camera feeds and pre-recorded videos.

The world premiere will also feature sets and costumes by Bretta Gerecke, special costumes by Project track star Mondo Guerra, lighting design by Jeanette Yew and technology design by Justin Nestor, Alex Hawthorn and Kelly Colburn. Production is handled by David Caparelliotis, with J. David Brimmer as fight director, Andy Arden-Reese as intimacy director, Dawn-Elin Fraser as voice and text coach and Shelley Miles as as manager.

The Off-Broadway Company’s next season also features Stephen Sondheim and George Furth We ride happily, starring Daniel Radcliffe; Clare Barron’s adaptation of Chekhov Three sisters, directed by Sam Gold; At Liliana Padilla’s How to defend yourselfco-directed by Rachel Chavkin (Hadesville) and Steph Paul (The last game); and Inua Ellams’ The demigod of rain. Performance dates for the remainder of the season are to be announced.
