DoT warns e-commerce companies against illegal sale of network jammers and boosters

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has warned e-commerce companies against selling certain telecommunications equipment such as wireless jammers and network amplifiers. According to an official DoT statement, the sale of this equipment requires government approval. The DoT has reportedly raised the same issue several times over the past few years. He also led raids to stop this illegal sale.

“The use of a cellular signal jammer, GPS blocker or other signal jamming device is generally illegal unless expressly permitted by the Government of India. Private sector organizations and individuals may not to procure or use jammers in India With respect to signal or booster, it is stated that it is illegal to advertise, sell, distribute, import or trade any jamming devices signal jamming in India,” the DoT said in an official statement.

“Unauthorized use of mobile phone amplifiers can harm and disrupt public telecommunications services by compromising the quality and coverage of these services. This not only causes inconvenience to mobile phone users, but can also hamper the ‘access to emergency call services from mobile phones, which creates a risk to public health and safety,’ the DoT advisory added in a statement.

According to reports, the DoT had also issued a notice on January 21 warning all e-commerce companies to sell or facilitate the sale of wireless jammers on their online platforms. The notice has been circulated to the Ministry of Commerce, Department of Promotion of Industry and Domestic Trade, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Customs, for appropriate actions.

SP Kochhar, Managing Director of COAI, said in a report quoted as follows: “Its unauthorized use interferes negatively with telecommunications services and we are pleased that the Indian government has recognized its importance in providing a network and a seamless telecommunications experience to citizens through This advisory will help raise awareness and make citizens aware of the debilitating effects that repeaters have on the entire network.”
