Tiwary also claimed that over the past 15-18 months, Amazon has seen a lot of customers move online, with 65% of customer orders and over 85% of new customers on Amazon coming from small towns and of level two cities. However, he did not provide the exact number of new customers on board.

Unlike Flipkart which is holding its Big Billion Days sale this year as a six-day event, Amazon is hosting the Great Indian Festival 2021 as a month-long sale. It could be similar to how the company conducted several rounds of sales last year.

“If you look at how customers celebrate this holiday season, it’s not about Diwali, it starts with Dussehra, Navratri, and continues throughout the month, and in sync with that, the Great Indian Festival will also be a month-long festival, ”Tiwary says. “So customers can enjoy a month-long celebration and access great daily deals from some of the biggest Indian and international brands, as well as a huge selection of our smaller sellers. “
