6 things to buy now before this year’s Black Friday shortages

Christmas could be in danger. Last year, the pandemic took hold of the global supply chain. Now we are dealing with the lingering effects: there are not enough freight containers. Businesses face labor shortages.

Oh, and don’t forget the global chip shortage, which means electronics prices could go up. Countless devices need tiny components to function; this is true for everything from smartphones to cars. Tap or click here to see how the chip shortage is already affecting the 2022 models.

All in all, it looks like prices will go up since Santa won’t have as many presents in his sleigh, so to speak. This means you need to shop before stocks run out. Here are six products you should buy as soon as possible.

1. Phones

The global chip shortage has hit the smartphone industry hard. Last year, only 1.33 billion smartphones were sold worldwide. This is an annual decrease of 10% compared to the previous year.

Industry analysts were hoping we would recover this year. Although it looks like more cellphones will sell than last year, it remains uncertain. Many companies have overestimated cell phone sales this year.

For example, research firm Counterpoint Research initially thought global smartphone shipments would reach around 1.45 billion. Now the researchers say it’s more likely to be around 1.41 billion units in total. While this isn’t a huge drop, it does mean the industry hasn’t recovered as well as many people hoped.

Here is how it affects you. IPhone users may not be as affected by this as Android enthusiasts. This is because Apple has been the least affected by the shortage.

If you’re looking for a cheaper Android phone, you might be hard pressed to find an affordable model. That’s because the global shortage is hurting supply, according to an August report from Wave7 Research.

Speaking of cheaper phones, we’ve found seven great models that perform well and cost less than $ 500. Tap or click here to find your next smartphone.

2. Laptops

Of course, these devices are also weak. Their complex processes require specialized microchips, which means manufacturers scramble to create as many laptops as people need.

One of the world’s largest laptop manufacturers has bad news. Acer says the shortage is having a severe impact on production – and this could persist until the second quarter of 2022.

Acer’s co-COO, Tiffany Huang, had a startling statistic for The Guardian. “Every day, I can only meet 50% of global demand,” she said.

Consider buying a refurbished device if you want to buy a laptop but don’t want to spend an arm or a leg. Buying a used computer from Amazon, eBay, or Apple saves you money. Tap or click here to buy cutting edge technology at a low price.

3. Everyday devices

Cars, phones and computers are far from the only gadgets affected by supply chain chaos. All kinds of gadgets use semiconductors, like refrigerators, microwaves, freezers, and dishwashers. If you like to infuse smart technology into your daily life, be careful.

From smart diapers to smart shower heads, the price of many high-tech devices you use every day could go up. If you’re surprised to hear about smart diapers, read our list of the weirdest smart home devices you can buy.

Bottom line: All kinds of everyday devices risk higher prices. Small business owners who rely on specialized technology for their day-to-day tasks should be particularly concerned.

For example, the Washington Post says even pet care companies are struggling right now. This is a company called CCSI, which sells electronic dog washing booths. CCSI’s printed circuit board supplier does not have the necessary chips to manufacture new cabins.

That means manufacturers may have to rotate their designs to incorporate a completely different type of chip instead, reports CNBC. Redesigns are always expensive and would result in higher prices. And this is just one example; the shortage spills over into countless industries.

4. New Nintendo Switch (coming 08/10)

In July, Nintendo announced the Nintendo Switch (OLED model). This gaming system will be more dynamic than previous Switch models, thanks to its 7-inch OLED screen. It launched on October 8 for $ 349.99.

Many gamers were enthusiastic about its improved audio features, as well as its wide adjustable stand for tabletop mode. It also comes with 64 GB of internal storage and a new docking station with a wired LAN port.

The new Switch has a ton of high tech features that people are getting excited about. But with such advanced design comes a bountiful inner world of hardware, including the coveted chips that are so rare right now. We expect these game consoles to be flying off the shelves, so it’s best to buy one now. Wait too long and you might lose your chance.

This console is available in two different colors: red and blue or pure white. You can buy them on Amazon here.

5. Toys

In reality, all kinds of toys may be more expensive this year. Even if you aren’t looking for play systems, toys that feature light, sound, or movement likely have complex circuitry. This type of technology often requires microchips.

You know what that means: shop earlier than usual for gifts for the children in your family. Don’t wait for Black Friday. This is especially true when you find a good deal.

On that note, it’s also a good idea to budget your vacation expenses this year. Generally, you could profit from the sales. But supply chain issues may mean retailers won’t cut prices this year.
